AKEL: Tax Reform's Haste Costs Society

AKEL strongly criticizes the government for the hasty implementation of the new tax reform, pointing out that significant gaps and errors are already appearing. Charis Polycarpou, a member of AKEL's Political Bureau and Head of the Economy Sector, states that society is paying the price for this rushed application, with thousands of taxpayers facing problems with child taxation and the inclusion of mortgage loans. Mr. Polycarpou emphasizes that the reform should have simplified life for citizens and businesses, and expresses AKEL's willingness to contribute to filling the gaps and solving the problems. He points out that the problems are not new, but were highlighted and ignored during the voting of the law. In his statement, Mr. Polycarpou accuses both the government and the parties supporting it, as well as the DISY party, of the haste they showed. He specifically mentions problems concerning the handling of children, the non-inclusion of certain mortgage loans, and incomplete provisions in new articles of the legislation. AKEL stresses the need for the tax reform to be simple and understandable for everyone, and commits to working with the Tax Commissioner to achieve this goal. The criticism focuses on the lack of attention to detail and the haste with which the reform was implemented, resulting in problems for taxpayers.
