AKEL: Obstacles Should Not Delay Dialogue Restart

AKEL expressed its concern over the lack of substantial progress in the talks following the meeting of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy, Maria Olgina, with the leaders of the two communities. The party believes that the process has slowed down and insists on the need to intensify contacts between the leaders and negotiators. AKEL emphasizes that the restart of a meaningful dialogue must remain the primary goal, despite the obstacles, and proposes strengthening efforts for Confidence-Building Measures, such as opening roadblocks, without these substituting the need to restart negotiations from where they were interrupted in 2017, respecting the negotiating acquis and the Gutierrez Framework.
