AKEL: Paphos Cannot Afford Half-Measures – It Will Thirst

The Paphos District Committee of AKEL conducted a tour of the province to highlight the acute water problem facing the area. The delegation visited the desalination unit in Kouklia and the Paphos Water Development Department, where they were briefed on the water supply situation, plans, and existing problems. These contacts revealed that Paphos needs new desalination units, expansion of existing ones, utilization of all possible resources, and development of new projects, such as new dams. Additionally, the Paphos City area requires the creation of a permanent desalination unit, a new dam, and the installation of rapid purification systems. AKEL points out that large quantities of water are lost due to network failures, critical policy decisions for permanent infrastructure are delayed, and services, particularly those of the Water Development Department, are understaffed. The party emphasizes the need for comprehensive planning, immediate decisions, and state support, so that the cost of the crisis does not fall on citizens. AKEL is committed to continuing its struggle to find solutions to the water problem in Paphos, focusing on the citizen, the economy, and the environment, warning that Paphos cannot afford half-measures and risks being left without water.
