AKEL Criticizes Tax Reform: Society Pays for Hastiness

AKEL strongly criticizes the tax reform, describing it as “hasty” and pointing out gaps and errors that cause difficulties for taxpayers. The Head of AKEL's Economic Sector, Charis Polycarpou, states that issues regarding child handling, housing loans, and incomplete provisions in new articles had already been highlighted but were ignored due to the rush to approve the reform. The party emphasizes that the reform should simplify the lives of citizens and businesses, not complicate them. It also expresses its willingness to contribute to the process of filling gaps and solving problems, proposing improvements to simplify the process for taxpayers. According to AKEL, the government, its supporting parties, and DISY bear responsibility for the hastiness with which the reform was promoted. The lack of attention to detail and the ignoring of warnings have resulted in hardship for citizens and increased bureaucracy. AKEL calls for an immediate review of the tax reform, with the aim of solving the problems and adapting it to the real needs of society and the economy. It emphasizes that taxation must be fair, transparent, and effective, and contribute to social cohesion and economic development.
