Real Estate Ownership by Third-Country Nationals in the Interior Committee

The Parliamentary Committee on Interior Affairs discussed a package of legislative proposals regarding the amendment of the legislation on the acquisition of real estate by third-country nationals in Cyprus. DISY emphasized the need to modernize the legal framework, stressing that the issue is critical for maintaining balances, safeguarding the public interest, and attracting quality investments, but requires caution regarding land ownership. AKEL submitted legislative proposals to control and limit the uncontrolled sale of land and real estate to third-country nationals, recognizing that the problem has implications for national security, especially in sensitive infrastructure and areas near the ceasefire line. There was unanimous agreement within the committee on the existence of the problem and the need to address it.
