Hundreds of Teachers to be Permanently Employed in Two Phases

The Educational Service Commission (ESC) will proceed with a significant number of permanent appointments of teachers at all levels, in two phases. The first phase, which will take effect from September 1, 2026, includes 86 permanent appointments in Primary Education, 54 in Pre-Primary Education, and 157 in Special Education. The announcement of the first phase is expected within the month, after the approval of the new organic positions in the 2026 budget. The second phase, to be announced in July 2026, will include the same number of new positions as the first phase, as well as additional positions to cover vacancies due to retirements. In total, the permanent appointments will amount to 481 positions, of which 255 will result from retirements and 226 from new organic positions. The OELMEK was informed about the allocation of the 226 positions by the Ministry of Education. These permanent appointments are the implementation of an agreement reached in July 2025 for the “Creation of New Permanent Organic Positions”. The ESC has informed the teacher organizations POED and OELMEK about the number of permanent appointments. This move is expected to contribute to meeting the needs of the education system and improving the quality of education.
