Cyprus: MC Media Launches Initiative to Combat Misinformation

MC Media is announcing the establishment of “Truth Day” on March 19th, an initiative to combat misinformation. The initiative includes a survey by Analytica Market Research to determine the level of exposure of Cypriots to fake news and their ability to recognize it. The survey will also examine how important the credibility of information is to Cypriots before they share it. The initiative comes at a time of increased concern about misinformation, especially due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, where Cyprus has been at the center of false news. MC Media, as the largest online news organization in Cyprus, seeks to strengthen responsible reporting and raise public awareness of the phenomenon of fake news. The findings of the survey will be published on March 19th, and on the same day the Group's digital media will host special features and analyses on misinformation. In addition, advertising banners will be replaced with messages informing against fake news. The day will culminate in a public event in Limassol with Ben Reininga, Fellow at Harvard University and Vice President of POLITICO, speaking on the topic of “Media and Artificial Intelligence: The Battle for Truth”. The Analytica Market Research survey will use modern methods, including online voting with strict controls to prevent multiple submissions and identify suspicious activity.
