Epstein: Council of Europe Lifts Diplomatic Immunity of Thor Bjorn Jagland

The Council of Europe has lifted the diplomatic immunity of its former Secretary-General, Thor Bjorn Jagland, who is being investigated in Norway for his connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The decision comes after the release of new evidence from the US Department of Justice, which brought to light potential involvement of public figures, including Princess Mette-Marit and other Norwegian officials. Jagland, who served as Secretary-General of the Council of Europe from 2009 to 2019, enjoyed diplomatic immunity even after the end of his term for acts committed during his duties. The investigation into Jagland is being conducted for aggravated corruption by the financial crime unit of the Norwegian police. Jagland himself claims innocence and has assured that he will cooperate with the authorities. The case has caused strong reactions in Norway, as it also involves other well-known figures, such as former Prime Minister Børge Brende and Ambassador to Jordan Mona Juul. The lifting of Jagland's diplomatic immunity paves the way for further investigation of the case and the possible prosecution, if sufficient evidence emerges.
