Strong Reactions to the Weakening of the Paphos Thalassemia Clinic, Concerns for Patient Safety

The Paphos Thalassemia Patient Association's Provincial Committee is expressing strong reactions and concern over the continued weakening of the Paphos Thalassemia Clinic. The main problem is the frequent relocation of the clinic's only doctor, which endangers the continuity and safety of patient treatment. The lack of a stable medical presence affects the quality of health services, as patients rely on regular transfusions and continuous monitoring. The Committee reports that despite repeated protests and warnings, the situation has not improved but has worsened. This creates an unstable operating model for the clinic, which cannot safely serve patients. There are cases where immediate service to patients, even for scheduled transfusions, becomes impossible. This causes insecurity among patients and their families, while delays or postponements in treatment can have serious consequences for their health. The president of the Association, Christiana Karayiorgi, emphasizes the disappointment with the lack of response from the responsible authorities. The Provincial Committee calls on the OKYPY and the Ministry of Health to take immediate action to fully restore a stable medical presence at the clinic, end the relocation of medical staff, and ensure the smooth and safe operation of the clinic. If there is no response, the Committee warns that it will take further action to highlight the problem.
