Adjournment in Property Seizure Trial: Concerns Raised Over Prison Conditions

The hearing for the bail request of German real estate agent Eva Isabella Kiunzel, accused of seizing Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, has been adjourned again until March 18, 2026. The postponement is due to the prosecution's unpreparedness to present arguments, and the accused will remain in custody. Defense attorney Sotiris Argyrou expressed strong dissatisfaction with the difficulties he faces during meetings with his client at the Central Prisons, citing access delays, mail checks, and difficulty preparing the defense. Meanwhile, the examination of prosecution witnesses continued. The President of the Community Council of Agios Ambrosios Kerynia, Pantelis Ttofi, testified that before the Turkish invasion of 1974, all land plots in Agios Ambrosios belonged to Greek Cypriots, and that the specific plot in question belongs to the Church and has not been sold. During the witness examination, the defense objected when the prosecution attempted to ask about the residents of the village after the departure of the Greek Cypriots, arguing that the question aimed to create prejudice. The case is ongoing, with the defense seeking the accused's release and denouncing problems in communication and defense preparation due to detention conditions. The prosecution, for its part, continues to present witnesses and evidence to prove the accused's guilt.
