Step Closer to Including Counseling Psychologists in the Cyprus Health System

A bill to include counseling psychologists in the General Health System (GHS) is moving forward to the plenary session of the Parliament. The proposal, supported by MPs from DISY and DIPA, provides for amending GHS legislation to include counseling psychologists in the category of “other healthcare professionals”. The HIO has expressed willingness to submit a proposal for the inclusion of counseling psychology as a separate professional group, initially for specific health conditions and with the possibility of expanding the service package. The inclusion of counseling psychologists in the GHS is expected to contribute to prevention, early intervention, and the management of psychosocial difficulties, as well as to alleviate the burden on the healthcare system.
