The Cypriot Minister of Defence, Vasilis Palmas, expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece for its immediate response and the dispatch of frigates and F-16 fighter jets to enhance the security of Cyprus due to the crisis in the region. This was stated during joint statements with the Greek Minister of Defence, Nikos Dendias, in Athens. Mr. Dendias referred to Cyprus's interest in purchasing the Greek anti-drone system 'Kentavros'. The two ministers discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean, noting the upgraded role of Greece and Cyprus in the region. Mr. Palmas stressed the readiness of the two countries for peacekeeping initiatives and the resumption of dialogue to resolve the crisis. Mr. Dendias noted the discussion on bilateral defence relations and the Greek military presence in Cyprus, as well as the impact of rising energy prices on economies. Mr. Dendias mentioned that Cyprus's interest in purchasing the 'Kentavros' system was discussed and that a meeting will be held with the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) to present the system. It is believed that Cyprus's interest is genuine.
