Iran Threatens 'Jihad' Against the West if Supreme Leader is Assassinated

The Iranian parliament has threatened that if Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is assassinated by the United States, it will issue a 'fatwa' – a religious edict – calling for 'jihad' (holy war) against the West. This threat is not considered mere rhetoric, given the deeply religious nature of the regime. Ali Khamenei is not considered merely a political leader by Shiite believers, but a representative of God on Earth, holding the 'Guardianship of the Jurist Authority'. According to Shiite beliefs, the 12th Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, has been in a state of 'occultation' since the 9th century, and the Supreme Leader acts as his representative. The threat of jihad raises concerns about potential terrorist acts by regime cells that have infiltrated Western countries. Russia, which already has a strong presence in the Arctic, is monitoring developments, as Russian interests in the region may also be affected. Putin commented that the issue of Greenland's ownership does not concern Russia, pointing out that Denmark has historically treated Greenland as a colony. At the same time, he recalled previous territorial transactions between Russia and the United States, such as the sale of Alaska, and estimated that the purchase of Greenland by the United States could cost around $1 billion.
