Report on Abused Women of 1974 Delivered to Guterres by Fourlas

Cypriot MEP Lucas Fourlas delivered a report on the abused women of 1974, prepared by the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Fourlas emphasized that the victims of sexual violence during the invasion deserve justice, recognition, and support from the international community. The report, based on shocking testimonies and documented evidence, records the violence and inhuman acts committed against Cypriot women during the Turkish invasion. Fourlas called on the UN Secretary-General to contribute to highlighting the historical truth and international recognition of the crimes. The MEP stressed the need for continued recognition and highlighting of crimes committed against women during conflicts, emphasizing that justice, memory, and historical truth are essential prerequisites for reconciliation and peace. He also informed Mr. Guterres that a resolution on the issue is being drafted by the European Parliament.
