ECOFIN Approves Second SAFE Package for Greece

The ECOFIN has approved a second set of executive decisions to make financial assistance available under the SAFE regulation to eight additional member states, including Greece. The Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council emphasized its work to ensure the smooth and rapid implementation of SAFE, noting that these decisions will facilitate the issuance of affordable, long-term loans from the Commission. Cyprus had received similar approval in the first tranche. Three member states, France, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, are awaiting final approval of their plans from the European Commission, with no specific timeline given for their approval.
