Prison Documents Case: All Defendants Plead Not Guilty

The eight defendants in the Central Prisons documents case have pleaded not guilty to all charges before the Nicosia Criminal Court. Among the defendants are the former Director and Deputy Director of the Prisons, as well as members of the correctional facility and a police officer. The charges relate to conspiracy, theft of state property (documents, architectural plans, digital data) and abuse of power. The defense attorneys raised the issue of a fair trial, citing a violation of criminal procedure regarding the delivery of evidence, as classified documents and architectural plans were not delivered in their entirety. The prosecuting authority stated that classified documents would be delivered with their content redacted, while the defense would have the opportunity to inspect them at the Police Headquarters. A special date was requested to allow the defense to fully develop its arguments regarding the right to a fair trial.
