Former Bishop of Paphos Appeals to the Ecumenical Patriarch

The former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, has filed an Appeal of Recourse to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, challenging the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus to indefinitely suspend him. According to his lawyer, this decision was made through procedures that violate canonical law and the principles of justice. The filing of the appeal has a suspensory effect, meaning the suspension is not in effect until the Patriarch's final decision. Mr. Tychikos denies any external influence on his decision to appeal and emphasizes that his criticism concerns only the process and not the substance of the accusations. Furthermore, he warns against public statements that prejudice the decisions of ecclesiastical bodies and reserves all legal rights for any defamatory claims. His goal is the institutional and impartial examination of the procedure followed, to ensure justice and the unity of the Church.
