Young Men Dominate Community Service Participation in Cyprus

The majority of participants in the Cyprus Community Service Program (KEXA) are men aged 21-25, with offenses primarily related to traffic violations. This emerged from a meeting between the President of the Pan-Cypriot Coordinating Council for Volunteerism (PSSC) and the Minister of Justice and Public Order. Alternative prison sentences through KEXA were discussed to alleviate prison overcrowding, as well as the role of the Crime Council in addressing modern challenges. To date, over 6,000 people have participated in the program, completing over 401,000 hours of community service. There is mutual intention to continue cooperation and sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
