Jump in Petroleum Sales in January, 'Dive' in Stocks

Total petroleum sales in Cyprus increased by 11.2% year-on-year in January 2026, reaching 118,460 tons. The increase is mainly due to the dramatic increase in oil supplies to ships (175.3%) and fuel supplies to aircraft (23.2%). Significant increases were also recorded in heating oil (25.2%), LPG (13.4%) and asphalt (13.2%). Conversely, a significant decrease was observed in light fuel oil sales (-62.3%) and heavy fuel oil (-12.1%), while a slight decrease was recorded in diesel (-1.6%). Gasoline sales remained stable, with a marginal increase of 0.3%. Sales from petrol stations increased by 3.5%, reaching 58,500 tons. On a monthly basis, however, total petroleum sales decreased by 3.9% in January 2026 compared to December 2025. Decreased were oil supplies to aircraft (-10.0%), as well as gasoline sales (-13.1%) and diesel sales (-11.9%). Conversely, oil supplies to ships increased by 15.6% on a monthly basis. At the same time, total petroleum stocks at the end of January decreased by 33% compared to the end of December 2025.
