Cypriot Judoka Reaches Fifth Place at Tbilisi Grand Slam

Cypriot Judoka Petros Christodoulidis achieved a significant success at the Tbilisi Grand Slam, finishing in fifth place. This is the biggest achievement of his career, as he defeated silver Olympic medalist Willian Lima from Brazil in the "32" round. Despite losing the bronze medal match to Georgian Tornike Gigauri, his performance in the tournament was impressive. The victory over Lima was particularly important, as Christodoulidis defeated him in overtime with ippon, a technique that impressed the international Judo community. This success earns him 360 points and will move him into the Top 40 of the -66kg World Ranking, climbing from 43rd place. Christodoulidis's journey in the tournament included victories over Indian Majgul Rohit Basir, Georgian Lasha Nadiradze, and Uzbek Ortikov. His defeat in the quarterfinals against Kazakh Serikbayev sent him to the repechage, where he eventually lost the bronze medal match. Christodoulidis's performance at the Tbilisi Grand Slam demonstrates his progress and maturity as an athlete. He is supported by various sponsors and programs, such as Allwyn Cyprus, the "A.G. Leventis" Foundation, and the International Olympic Committee. Other Cypriot athletes also participated in the tournament, with less success.
